StreetSmart has teamed up with Hippo Inns every Tuesday to raise money for homeless charities in communities local to their pubs.
Seven pubs are participating in the scheme: Black Horse in Kingston, The Eagle, Ladbroke Grove, Duke of Sussex, Waterloo, The Signal, Forest Hill, The Grafton, Kentish Town, Islington Town House, Angel, George Pub, Isle of Dogs, and the Colton Arms and Lillie Langtry in Kensington.
StreetSmart raises funds for homeless and vulnerable people by adding voluntary £1 donation to diners’ bills. Our sponsor, Deutsche Bank, covers 100% of our operational and administrative costs meaning that every single pound raised stays whole and goes directly to those who need it.
Some of the charities the pubs will be fundraising for include Brixton Soup Kitchen, Glass Door night shelter, New Horizon youth centre, The Amber Foundation residential centre, 240 Project, an arts and health centre in Notting Hill, and The Margins Project, who run a café training programme to support employment. Many of these charities offer emergency needs support such as food and accommodation, as well as long-term aid to tackle the root causes of homelessness through counseling, advice, and education and training schemes.
Islington Town House has recently employed a trainee from The Margin project’s café training programme, both based in Islington.
