StreetSmart is on the search for restaurant partners nationwide for their 2020 campaign. The past 6 months have been challenging for everyone, and StreetSmart funds are needed now, more than ever, to help a new wave of rough sleepers and those evicted from their permanent homes.
Last week, charities warned the nation could face a wider homelessness crisis than ever before after government statistics showed more than 75,000 households were homeless or at risk of becoming so, just before lockdown. Since the pandemic unemployment rates have risen by 185%, with many more redundancies still on the horizon.
Streetsmarts 2020 campaign will start on 1st November and continue until 31stDecember with all funds raised being given to local charities helping homeless people whose lives have been severely hit by the Covid-19 crisis.
“StreetSmart makes it simple for us all to contribute to our community. Diners enjoy eating out and supporting restaurants, restaurants easily add the extra £1, restaurants pass it onto StreetSmart, Streetsmart puts it immediately to good use supporting the vulnerable community up and down the country. Especially now, especially more than ever as we pull through 2020’s pandemic, we can all play our part in sharing just a small amount to make such a big difference to someone else.” Melissa Hemsley, Chef & Author
There are already some amazing restaurants committed to helping the campaign yet again including The River Cafe, St John, Mere, Ikoyi, The Drapers Arms, Ottolenghi and Sam’s Riverside to name just a few.
Restaurateur Sam Harrison was one of the first to sign up his Riverside restaurant in Hammersmith saying “I have always thought that StreetSmart is just a brilliant charity and the work they do is so very important. This year, due to Covid there has been a new wave of homeless people hitting London streets. I would ask you to get behind this great cause and support in anyway you can”
